RackReady

Know what to lift. Know what you lifted.

RackReady runs your routine on your phone: today's exercises, how to load the bar, what you lifted last time, and what comes next.

Walk up to the rack ready

RackReady draws the plates for each side of the bar and lists every plate you'll need for the warm-ups and working sets, so you can grab them in one trip. Warm-up weights are worked out for you.

Exercises come with approved alternatives. Pick one, or type in your own on the spot. RackReady remembers your weight for each, and jumps you to the next exercise that's free.

See that you're getting stronger

Last week's weight is already filled in. Your history turns into an estimated one-rep max for each lift, personal records, sets per muscle each week, rest times and training load.

Stats: workouts, strength trends and sets per muscle.

Ready-made routines, or your own

Start with a routine that comes with the app, or build your own in the free LiftFile Builder and load it in. Run more than one at a time, and send the file to a friend so you can train the same plan.

Made for between sets

Big buttons, one tap to log a set, and a rest timer that tells you what's next. Skip a day or push it to tomorrow and your plan keeps its place.

Works with what your gym has

Pounds or kilograms, weight stacks with numbers or pins, and different machines at different gyms.

Why RackReady exists

I hate the gym.

I spent 26 years in the Army Reserve, seven of them on active duty. I was a Drill Sergeant for many years, and a Sapper. I loved running. The gym, never. Plenty of soldiers loved lifting and hated running; I was the other kind.

In the gym I never knew what to do. I wandered from machine to machine and could never remember what weight I'd used.

Then I found a program from a well-known coach that I actually liked. It came as a spreadsheet. Between every set I was opening it on my phone to find the next exercise and its alternatives, scrolling up for last week's weight, working out the warm-ups, scrolling right for the notes, then typing into a tiny cell. It drained the motivation right out of me.

So I built RackReady, for me. If I'm the only person who ever uses it, it's already a success. If it helps you get through your workout too, even better.

I built it for me. You get it for free.

Use it today, in your browser

The web app is the same RackReady. It works offline, keeps your data on this device, and installs to your home screen like any other app.

Open the web app

Install it

  1. Android (Chrome): open the web app, tap the ⋮ menu, then Install app or Add to Home screen.
  2. iPhone and iPad (Safari): open the web app, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen.
  3. Computer (Chrome or Edge): open the web app and click the install icon in the address bar.

What the phone apps will add

While your phone is locked or you're in another app, the web app can't alert you when rest is over. On phones it also can't open a LiftFile straight from your messages or files; open RackReady and add it from there. The Android and iPhone apps will do both.

Install it instead of using a browser tab: browsers can clear data for websites you haven't visited in a while. Either way, save a backup now and then.

Coming to Google Play and the App Store

The phone apps are in testing. Until they're out, use the web app above, and build your own routine in the LiftFile Builder. To bring your history along later, save a backup in the web app and restore it in the phone app.
